About Manantial

Born in Sweden in 1981, Johan Moberg found his interest in music early in life and has played a variety of instruments over the years. At an early age, he started out with the violin to move on to drums after some time. At the age of twelve, he found his way to the guitar, which remains his main instrument.

He started his musical education at Palmcrantz High School of Music in Östersund, Sweden. Johan was a part of many different bands in many varieties of world music, e.g. salsa and kurdish music, to mention a few. In 1998, Manantial started his first flamenco band — Boira Negra.

As his interest in flamenco grew, Johan started to take private lessons from Swedish flamenco guitarist Erik Steen. After high-school, Johan moved straight to Seville in Spain to further study the art of flamenco at Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco. From there, he continued further north in Spain, to Taller de Musics in Barcelona.

After some five years in Spain and many lessons later from (among others) Pedro Sierra, Juan Ramón Caro, Chicuelo, Miguel Angel Cortés, Niño de Pura and Carlos Heredia, Manantial returned to Sweden in 2005 to start the recording of his debut album Mi Própia Película in Home Studio, Revsund.

Since the release of Mi Própia Película, Johan has been touring with a variety of bands — FlamencoXL, Abjeez, Maktub and Sinwar. Full length albums from both Abjeez and Sinwar are in the making.
